Position: Instructional Program Coordinator, 2 positionsLocation: NYC Center for Space Science, 220 Henry St, New York, NY 10002
Eligibility: Minimum of 3 years of satisfactory science teaching experience or equivalent Advanced Degree in Science or Science Education
Position is one year – renewal based on funding and performance
Selection Criteria:
· Extensive expertise in science instruction at the elementary, middle or high school level
· Excellent public speaking and facilitation skills
· The ability to develop, plan and implement diverse types of science programs for school children (4th – 12th grade), teachers and private organizations within the city
· Self starter with the ability to be very flexible with work schedules
· Excellent organizational, oral, written communication and technological skills
· Willingness to travel to schools and meetings throughout the city
· Willingness to work occasional Saturday’s, summer and evening hours (additional compensation will be provided)
· Excellent record of attendance and punctuality
· Knowledge regarding current research and research practices of urban science education, with specific regard for space science.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Organize, coordinate, and run instructional programs for students in both public and private schools in grades 4th – 12th.
· Work collaboratively with Director and other Program Coordinators to develop and revise curriculum for the instructional programs at the Center.
· Work with Director and other Program Coordinators to plan and implement professional development programs for science teachers in NYC public schools.
· Work collaboratively with Director, other Program Coordinators, The National Challenger Organization and other staff to operate all aspects of maintaining the Center.
· Work with other staff to document, reflect upon, publish and give presentations about the work done at the Center at various conferences and meetings.
· Maintain daily operational needs of Center.
· Work with Director to create promotional and marketing materials for Center
Hours/Work Year: Work schedule follows a school work year schedule as per UFT regulations & 8:00 – 4:00 p.m. daily.
Salary: As Per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
